Aaliyah Dana Haughton burst into the limelight in 1994 when she debuted her first album Age Ain't nothing but a number. The singer was only 15 at when the album was released and it went on to become Gold. The group's collaboration heavily in the direction of R. Kelly's music, put her in the limelight. The year 1996 saw her release her sophomore album One In A Million with Jermaine dupri and Timbaland. The album featured the number one hit single If Your girl only had known. Aaliyah achieved international recognition for her R&B vocals with the album. In 2000, she appeared alongside the famous martial arts star Jet Li as Jet Li in Romeo Must Die. Joel Silver, the film producer, saw her during the awards ceremony and kindly offered her the part. In 2002, she was part of the film vampire Queen of the Damned based on the Anne Rice book. Then she was introduced to the Matrix with her role as Zee as Zee in The Matrix Sequels having also been as a character in The Matrix Reloaded in 2003 and The Matrix Revolutions in the same year. She received four nominations for Grammys, in 1999, 2001 and 2002. She is of Indian descent and was born in Connecticut. The stage name Mann is an abbreviation for her marriage name Mankad. Aarti Magnumdar, her professional name, but she has also used Aarti Magumdar. She began her acting career as a minor actor in TV and film parts, however her fame grew during the middle 2000s. Some of her other notable work comprise Leverage 2012, Suits 2013, and Grey's Anatomy 2017. In addition, she has appeared in commercials for big brands like international car manufacturer Volvo. She currently lives in Los Angeles along with her spouse, daughter, and husband. She is also pursuing her acting profession.
